Fall is the new “New Year”

Summer vacation is over and pre-school is right around the corner. Pumpkin Spice Lattes will soon be added to the menu of coffee shops all over town and that means that Fall is on the doorstep waiting to come in. I love Fall. I love the cooler temperatures but still clear days. I like the long sleeve shirts and the falling leaves and the feeling of hope and new beginnings that fall brings. I think it goes back to school clothes shopping, starting a new year, and a bouquet of  freshly sharpened pencils. The feeling that this year can be different, that this year I would be a good student. I would make the effort, try even. But maybe it is the end of Summer that does it. The evenings on the porch are over and the fires are coming but it is not a mourning for what was but an excitement for what will be.

Beautiful and I were married in the Fall partly out of necessity and mostly because we both share that love. We saw the Fall foliage of the North East for our honeymoon and planned out our life in hope filled dreams. We are both energized by the fall winds and the warm drinks and I think that feeling of possibility from school age had continued into adulthood. I asked the guys in the chat of the Sunday night podcast if anyone else felt that way about the Fall and no one else really did. For them New Years was still that time of resolutions and hope that maybe this year will be better than the last. So it looks like I am alone in the whole Fall being the new “New Years” but I’m ok with that. I will make my resolutions and plan the growth I will have this Fall. I will walk more, run with the kids, and find more creative outlets for the kids. We will collect those falling leaves and enjoy the warm beverages together.

  1. I am actually with you James. I love Fall too. It has always held a special appeal to me. Maybe it’s the NW weather in Fall but I love it. Plus my birthday is Mid Sept so I always looked forward to that too.

  2. I totally agree with you and probably most people who work in a school feel this way. Like seattledad, my b-day is in sept. so i tend to think about making changes as I get a year older. But I still love summer!

Yeah I love summer too but I like the Fall best. Even if it means I have to wear shoes again
