During the Thanksgiving holiday Beautiful’s parents were here and we decide to hit the local bowling alley and get our roll on. Primo had been bowling once before at a day camp in Indianapolis while we there on vacation and he had been asking to do it again ever since. We all got our fancy two-tone shoes, except Segundo whose feet were too small, grabbed a ball, and settled into our bumpered lane.
Picking a ball is annoying for me because my fingers are so big, I blame overly large knuckles on years of jamming my fingers playing basketball, so the only balls that fit my fingers are roughly 700 pounds. I would like to say it doesn’t matter, that I am strong enough to handle such a weighty rock, but people know I like my balls more manageable. I found a slightly too heavy ball and we got started with Primo going first. He had the approach and roll down, since he’d doen it before a year and a half ago and all, and proceeded to teach us how to do it. So much like his mommy that kid. Segundo did not have it down but didn’t care. He would put his ball on the floor, try to kick it down the lane, and then lay there watching it’s slow roll to the pins. He would get others to join his vigil, as you see in the picture above.
We had a great time, enjoyed a pitcher of beer and some tasty alley fare, and laughed a ton. The bumpers kept the scores close, though I pulled away at the end with a couple strikes in a row. It was another of those great parental experiences where you took something you may have enjoyed before but long since forgot about and saw it again through the eyes of your kids. They slid on the slick floor, crashed to the sound of ball hitting pins, and excitedly kept track of everyone’s turn. If you haven’t been bowling in a while try it out. It’s great family fun for not too much money.

I love going bowling with the kids, though I do have to spot my son 100 points or he pitches a fit. Do a search for AMF Kids Bowl Free. You can sign up with them and roll free or discount games with the kids.

Okay, the fact that this is a good post goes without saying, but the title . . . now that’s awesome!
“Shut up Donnie!” Sorry, couldn’t help it.

I’m the same way. I like the weight of the kids’ balls but have fingers the size of an adult. it’s a problem. that, and I suck at bowling.
