Matchbox Portraits: The Counting Game

This morning we did a little counting exercise using the many cars in the two toy boxes the boys have. We gathered all the little cars in a big pile and started sorting them by color. Then we set out to count to ten using cars. I sat back and watched the kids go through the process of deciding which color would go well. Red started at two but as more red cars piled up they moved it farther down. They worked together solving the counting problem in a rare cooperation of a 4, 3, and 2 year old.

I do the same thing with my 2 year old nephew… he loves cars and trains and wants to paly with them all the time. I get him to count and tell me his colors by lining up the matchbox cars. He is learning and he doesn’t even know it. 🙂
