Playdough and development

In the last couple of weeks we have noticed some fun developments from Primo. He has been writing out letters, especially his name, in fairly straight line and with all the letters being the same size. He has been trying to write out letters for a while now but they would be all sorts of shapes and sizes and a combination of forward facing and backwards letters. But recently his words are legible not only for us but for others to read. Along those lines he has been drawing things that actually look like what he says they are. He has been drawing cars and trucks and they look pretty good. These things seem to happen while you aren’t looking and all of a sudden I’m looking at Beautiful and asking if she knew he could do that.

Today ater a walk to get lunch we came home and played with some playdough. We made shapes and pretend meals and then Primo started making letters to spell out his brother’s name. That’s the video below:

Father 100: Forgiveness

The second Father 100 where dads or moms write 100 words or less on one word that Chalkboard Dad gives. You can read more about the rules here, but that is basically it. This weeks word is forgiveness and below is my entry as well as links to other entires:

The frustration is blinding and bubbling out of every pore as I sit here next to him. He is crying, head down with heavy sobs trying to get back in control. We share that job right now, trying to regain control. I don’t remember who lost it first but he is four and I am not. “I’m sorry sweet boy, daddy should not have yelled like that” “It’s OK daddy, I forgive you.” His crying stops, mine is just starting as we both finish up our time in the naughty chair.

The Father 100

When the boys climb into bed with us just after dawn I feel it. I may be a little annoyed at the early hour and the end of sanctuary but when they snuggle up on the pillow and fill the space between us my protests melt away. It is those moments when I most acutely aware of how lucky, blessed, and fulfilled I am. I am aware of what it means to love and be loved by these little ones and though it will be a while before the alarm stirs us to action I am happy right here.

This is for the Father 100 project over at Chalkboard Dad. The rules are listed below:

You will have between now and midnight on Friday to write a one hundred word post inspired by that word. Entries can be less than one hundred words, but they cannot be more. Posts must focus on some aspect of parenting. Even though I call this the Father 100, moms are encouraged to join us!

A plethora of words from the dads out there

Have you been noticing all the great writing that is coming out of todays engaged fathers? No, you haven’t, well let me educate you a little on a couple of the great resources for daddy bloggers making sense of parenting out there:

  • First off there is a great collection of daddy bloggers on Jack B’s festival of bloggers that should keep you busy for a bit.
  • Next we have some reviews of various blogs by relative new comer Stay At home Dad in Lansing. While fairly new he has had a big impact early with quality writing and a knack for connecting with other dads on line.
  • Dad of Divas has been featuring some Dads in the Limelight asking dads how they manage their roles as fathers with the limelight of jobs or celebrity.
  • Over at the blog My Spelling Sucks has this great DADvocate Project where he is gathering surveys of fathers in order to write a book about dads by dads. The surveys are as anonymous as you would like them to be and I would encourage you to add your voice.
  • A Blogger and A Father has a growing collection of blogs on his site as well as his own writing.
  • Finally there is a great community of bloggers over at Dad Blogs where a social network has been created around dads writing. One of my favorite parts of the community is the Fatherhood Friday posts that everyone does. You can add your link to the group and help readers find some really great thoughtful writing.

As you can see there is a lot of great resources out there to get your daddy blogging fix and this is just a small sample. So click on the links and feel free to add any of the resources that you love in the comments.
